Gratitude can turn common days into Thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. – William Arthur Ward
A few weeks ago, we talked through some insights on how you might improve your communication efforts and the impact that can have on your practice. Communication is one of those things that you really need to pay consistent attention to…or it won’t improve! We won’t beat it to death, but we wanted to offer one more communication insight.
When we look for definitions of effective communications, there are a couple of traits that keep recurring. One of them is to be empathetic. But what exactly does it mean to be empathetic? We probably all have an idea in our heads about what empathy looks like, but we wanted a definition to help frame your thinking on empathy and its role in your practice communications. Think of empathy this way…empathy means feeling WITH someone. The actual definition of the word includes “the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.” Compare that to sympathy…which means to feel sorry FOR someone. Often, empathy and sympathy are thought of as interchangeable. They’re really not.
See the difference? And think about how that difference can completely change your communication efforts.
We also talked a bit about bragging humbly. Well here goes…as we near $9.5 billion in AUM and nearly 400 advisors on the team, we certainly have much to be grateful for. We believe it’s our unwavering dedication to our representatives and a deep understanding…and empathy for…what it takes to build a business in the field that has allowed us to impact so many awesome advisors. It’s a privilege we take very seriously, and brag about humbly!
