Often, Thanksgiving messages revolve around pausing to give thanks for what’s really important in life…family, friends and football! And we’re certainly on-board with that message!
But it’s the pause that we’ like to expand upon today. Because the pause can translate into better relationships with your clients, colleagues and co-workers. Pausing allows you to focus on the present. In our business, we tend to research investment opportunities by looking at historical performance…the past in the rearview mirror. We then try to forecast the future with projections and estimates…looking forward to the future.
Sometimes it’s important to remember not to spend too much time in the past or in the future…as life can only be lived in the present. And while that may sound overly metaphysical, it can be an important way to deepen your client relationships. Clients care about living in the present and planning for the future. Before moving to your recommendations for their future…engage with them on their present. A little time focused on your clients “present” may help make the planning for the future a little easier.
